Divers Supply
Divers supply a wide variety of societal functions. Beyond the sport and hobby aspect, they perform many needed services such as underwater welding and salvage. They also help perform regular maintenance and cleaning on ships and oil rigs. Divers also perform routine maintenance and cleaning in aquariums, harbors, and civil engineering projects.
Search and rescue divers supply a crucial role on waterways and on the coasts in helping search and save, if possible, people who are injured, unconscious, or trapped. Many lifeguard stations employ divers as do most local police organizations for just such a purpose. Rescue diving is an advanced form of the sport and requires considerable training before a person can even enroll in the certification program. These people provide critical lifesaving skills which can save people in extreme circumstances or at least provide comfort and closure to their families left behind.
Perhaps the most interesting service divers perform is that of underwater photography or videography. These divers have the unique pleasure of filming the aquatic world on an array of high tech cameras and gadgets for documentaries and oceanographic studies. Aside from sophisticated cameras and such these divers also frequently employ underwater DPVs, or diver propulsion devices. These hand-held mini-motors are great for diving in waves or in strong currents or for shooting faster marine life. Scuba diving is a very gear oriented sport and any of its disciplines requires a lot of gear which can be purchased at any divers supply shop.
