Scuba Equipment

Aside from the main items of scuba equipment, there are all sorts of things that can be used to enhance the sport. Fins, for example, are a necessary piece of gear for moving around under water. They are vital for quick effortless movement, especially in areas with strong currents. Recently, they have started designing split-fins, which mimic a boat propellers action in the water. They take much less energy and are much faster than regular fins.

Another important piece of scuba equipment is the dive buoy. These are inflatable floating marks that denote divers are at work to boats and other water craft. After a dive trip, the divers will reconvene and ascend at this spot so that they can surface without fear of passing boats and such.

The diving knife is an indispensible piece of scuba equipment. It can be used to cut oneself free of tangles or obstacles. Knives can also be used to pry things off or open. Although they can be used defensively, they are not designed for this purpose. Rather, diving knives were designed with utility in mind. The diving ethos is not to harm sea-life but to take preventative measures to avoid being hurt by marine animals.
